First Campomanes Memorial chess inaugural

Another leap to the success of Philippine chess history was taken as the first Florencio Campomanes Memorial chess championship slated August 28 to September 3 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

The country’s President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III was invited to be the special guest of honor and perform the ceremonial moves along with International Chess Federation http://www.fide.com/ President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov during the opening ceremony.

National Chess Federation of the Philippines http://www.ncfphilippines.org/ President Prospero “Butch” Pichay noted that this undertaking is, indeed, another milestone in the local chess history. He has been very busy in the organization and planning of this event, leaving no stone unturned to ensure the success of the Campomanes Memorials.

The inaugural was also attended by the people who have been supporting the chess industry in the country: Philippine Olympic Committee http://www.olympic.ph/ President Jose “Peping” Conjuangco; Philippine Sports Commission http://www.psc.gov.ph/ Chair Richie Garcia; NCFP Secretary General Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino; and Metro Manila Development Authority http://www.mmda.gov.ph/Chair Francis Tolentino.
